As with paint – vinyl graphics is all about preparation. In readiness for any graphics application the following preparations should be undertaken to ensure the successful application and longterm quality of the application.
All surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned before applying your vinyl graphics. Follow the instructions below for specific material cleaning procedures.
Thoroughly wipe surface clean with a window cleaner. Remove any dried on substances such as tape or glue with a single edge razor blade. If you are planning to use acrylic, remove the protective liner from the acrylic 24 hours prior to application vinyl graphic. This will allow any air bubbles (outgassing) to dissipate from the acrylic. If this is not observed you may find air bubbles form under your graphic within a couple of days..
Cleanliness is next to godliness- All vehicles should be – at the very minimum – hot pressure washed before delivery for fitting. A surcharge will be added to have the vehicle professionally cleaned should it be presented in an unclean state. Care should be taken to clean panel gaps, door jams and unseen areas should the vehicle be wrapped. Tar spots and road dirt should also be removed These surfaces may be cleaned with a solvent such as panel wipe or Thinners. Dry the surface with a lint free cloth before the solvent evaporates.
Freshly painted surfaces should be dry for at least 72 hours prior to application of the vinyl graphics. Please advise our team if the vehicle is freshly painted before fitting. Fresh paint will still cure and release gasses even after it is hardened to the touch. As such this can effect the paint drying.
Silicone sprays, polishes and in the case of motocross and buggies – WD40 should be fully cleaned from ALL surfaces before vinyl graphics should be applied.
Surfaces may be cleaned with any household cleaners but no polish like substance. Wipe area clean and dry with a lint free cloth before applying the vinyl graphics. Freshly painted surfaces should be dry for at least 72 hours prior to application of the vinyl graphics.
The temperature of the room and the temperature of the intended surface should be between 18-25 degrees Celsius for best results. Excess cold or heat can effect greatly the application process.
Where possible any old stickers should be removed prior to delivery. This can be done using a light heat from a heat gun or hair dryer and peeling back the substance. Please try not to use scrapers or blades as to not damage the paint underneath. Any glue residue can be removed with ordinary tar remover or paint thinners.
Vinyl will apply to many surfaces but it cannot cover every sin. A rough paint surface will show through a vinyl graphic wrap and as such the surface should be smooth and sealed prior to graphics application to make sure that it sticks properly and has a high quality finish. Vinyl is NOT a cheap cover up for broken paint or scratched surfaces.
